BMW overthrows Mercedez Benz At Top Spot
The German luxury car BMW redeemed its top position from its arch rival Mercedez-Benz in the number game. For the January-November 2010 figures, BMW topped the sales charts drawing the gap with Mercedez-Benz closer in the domestic car market. In the past year, Mercedez-Benz sales soared high to 79.31 percent in the first half which helped it gain the top spot and out numbered BMW X1. According to sales figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), BMW has succeeded to attain the number one rank by selling 5, 345 cars over the 5, 109 cars sold by Mercedez-Benz from January to November. BMW also observed a hike of 60.17 percent in the last 11 months of 2010 as compared to its 3,337 units sold at the same time in 2009.
But then the rival auto company Mercedez-Benz sold 2, 915 units elevating to 75.27 percent of the sales figures the same time last year. According to experts in the industry, Mercedes-Benz is not going to let things go easily and it will soon come up with surprise tactics to regain the top spot. The German premium auto manufacturer has won the hearts of the consumers in the domestic market and is striving hard again to jump back to the top spot. If predictions were to come true, the last month of the year will be crucial in deciding the king of the year as it is speculated that about 15, 000 or more luxury car units will be sold this year. According to Wilfried Aulbur, the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedez-Benz, they are looking forward at the charts or the ranking but is also paying attention to the accelerating growth and is developing closer relations with buyers. Recently, the manufacturing plant of Mercedez-Benz in Chakan, Maharashtra started another shift to double the production of their luxury cars by 10, 000 units annually. Aside from this, the company is also going to invest Rs 200 crore to establish a paint shop in the coming 18 months in the facility. The competition is getting steeper for both and the public could only witness the battle for the top spot unveil before their eyes. The consumers are sure to benefit in the rivalry.
